Boles, AR

Set along Highway 71 about nine miles south of Waldron, Boles is a quiet countryside community in the Ouachita Mountains. It grew up along the Fourche La Fave River in the late 1800s, initially going by the name Stringtown before taking the surname of an early settler family. Back then, river valley farming and cotton production supported a thriving settlement with its own general stores, doctors, a hotel, and a local post office.

Today, Boles is a relaxed, open area where neighbors know each other and life moves at an easy pace. Most residents drive up to Waldron for shopping, dining, and schools, but the community still has its own everyday anchors, including a volunteer fire department, two Baptist churches, a local post office, and a community center located in the old school cafeteria.
