Bolingbroke, GA

Bolingbroke is a Monroe County census-designated place just north of Macon, between Interstates 75 and 475. Founded in 1867, it was named for Henry St John, 1st Viscount Bolingbroke, an English philosopher and politician. The 2020 census counted 497 residents. Downtown Macon is about fourteen miles southeast by I-75, putting Bolingbroke in the Macon orbit while leaving it surrounded by the roads and open land of southeastern Monroe County.

The community has had several civic lives. The Georgia General Assembly incorporated Bolingbroke as a town in 1912, but that municipality was dissolved in 1995; today the place is both unincorporated and officially recognized as a CDP. Community events keep the name active throughout the year, including the Bolingbroke Southern Jam music festival, produced here since 2009, and an annual Christmas parade. Its location gives residents quick access to Macon and the interstate system, while the local calendar gives the crossroads community reasons to gather close to home. People still meet there.
