About Bonaparte

Bonaparte is a city in Van Buren County, Iowa, United States. The 2020 census counted 359 residents. The town is located on the Des Moines River and contains a number of historical buildings, including a large pottery. The area was established in 1837 by William Meek, and named Meek's Mill. Bonaparte makes sense once you see how its past, landscape, and current gathering spots overlap. The useful thing to know about Bonaparte is that its older landmarks and current settings belong to one connected place. The lots were resurveyed in 1841, and the name was changed to Bonaparte. Bonaparte is located along the historic Mormon Trail.
