About Bonny Doon

Bonny Doon is a rural census-designated place in Santa Cruz County, northwest of Santa Cruz in the coastal mountains. It began as a logging camp in the 1850s, and its name was inspired by a Robert Burns line about Scotland's Doon River. Bonny Doon has no real town center or commercial strip, but it has wineries, an elementary school, a church, fire stations, a lavender farm, and the Bonny Doon Ecological Reserve. Wildfire risk is part of the local reality.
