About Bonsall

Bonsall is a small census-designated place in northern San Diego County, just east of Oceanside and Camp Pendleton, north of Vista, and northwest of Hidden Meadows. It has a rural-residential feel compared with the denser cities nearby. The area was once called Mount Fairview, later Osgood, and was renamed Bonsall in 1890 after local minister James A. Bonsall. The 2017 Lilac Fire heavily affected the area, a reminder that this inland North County landscape is beautiful but fire-prone.
