Boron is a desert community in Kern County, California, situated along State Route 58 in the Mojave Desert. Named after the element, the town is famous as the home of the Rio Tinto Borax Mine, which stands as the world's largest borax mine and California's largest open-pit operation. The community hosts the Saxon Aerospace Museum, honoring nearby Edwards Air Force Base and NASA Dryden history, and the Twenty Mule Team Museum. Local schools are administered by the Muroc Joint Unified School District.
