Bostwick, GA

Bostwick is a small Morgan County city on Georgia Route 83, about ten miles north of Madison and thirteen miles southeast of Monroe. The city was incorporated in 1902 and named for John Bostwick, a founding resident. Its early economy grew around cotton, with a rail line connecting Bostwick to Apalachee and eventually Monroe. Bucks Creek drains the north side of town, while Beaverdam Creek runs to the south, placing the community between small waterways and the broad farm country of central Georgia.

The cotton years still show up in Bostwick's calendar and buildings. The annual Cotton Gin Festival celebrates the agricultural work that shaped the city, and the Bostwick Historic District preserves part of the town's older arrangement of homes and commercial places. Morgan County later moved through dairying and timber production as agriculture changed. The 2020 census counted 378 residents. Bostwick remains a small place, but its name, rail history, and cotton traditions keep it connected to the larger story of Morgan County.
