Bottineau, ND

Bottineau is the seat of Bottineau County in north-central North Dakota, just over ten miles south of the Canadian border. The 2020 census counted 2,194 residents. The city carries the name of Pierre Bottineau, a Métis guide, hunter, and land speculator, and its county-seat role dates to 1884. The Turtle Mountains rise to the north, turning what could be another prairie grid into a place with a strong north-country identity.
