About Bovina

Located out in the Texas Panhandle along U.S. 60, Bovina is a quiet farming community of around 1,700 people just a short drive from the New Mexico border. The town got its start in the late 1890s as a camp on the historic XIT Ranch. Railroad workers originally nicknamed the stop "Bull Town" because cattle would crowd the tracks to eat spilled cottonseed feed, which inspired the name Bovina when the post office opened in 1899.
