Bowbells, ND

Serving as the seat of Burke County in northwestern North Dakota, Bowbells is a quiet prairie community just fifteen miles south of the Canadian border. The town grew around the historic Soo Line railroad and stretches along U.S. Highway 52, making it an easy stop for travelers heading north or south. With around 300 residents, it offers the kind of open space, slow pace, and familiar neighborhood feel typical of small northern plains towns.

Daily life centers on a handful of dependable local staples along Main Street, including the county courthouse, a local clinic, a post office, and neighborhood dining spots. Families rely on the local school, which educates kindergarten through twelfth-grade students under one roof. Agriculture and grain handling drive much of the local economy, alongside energy jobs throughout the region. Outdoor recreation is close at hand, with the Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge just a short drive east for birdwatching, hunting, and scenic views, as well as a municipal golf course, city park, and campground right at the edge of town.
