Braddock, PA

Braddock Hills is an Allegheny County borough about eight miles east of Pittsburgh, a residential place spread along roads that lead toward Braddock, Swissvale, Forest Hills, and the Parkway. Brinton Road follows an older Indigenous trail, while Braddock Road carried farmers and coal miners toward the valley. The borough sits northwest of Braddock’s Field, where General Edward Braddock’s 1755 defeat became one of the region’s defining historical reference points.

The community began as Hannatown along Brinton Road, was part of Wilkins Township, and incorporated as Braddock Hills in 1946 after neighboring boroughs had split away from Braddock Township. Pittsburgh is close enough to shape commutes, schools, and the broader suburban rhythm. A one-room schoolhouse on land donated by the Hanna family eventually became Braddock Hills Elementary, and the area joined Woodland Hills School District in 1981. Today the borough’s map is suburban, but its older layers remain readable in the trail-turned-road, the coal-country hills, the school story, and the nearby battlefield.
