Bradenton Beach, FL

Bridge Street is Bradenton Beach's clearest everyday center. The old street marks the island end of the mainland bridge, and the Historic Old Town district now holds shops, restaurants, lodging, a Sunday Market, and live music. At the north end of Sarasota Bay, the Historic City Pier adds fishing and a day dock for boaters visiting the pier and Bridge Street businesses. A free Anna Maria Island trolley connects this corridor with Coquina Beach at the south end of the island.

The city occupies southern Anna Maria Island, between the Gulf of Mexico and Anna Maria Sound, with Holmes Beach to the north and Longboat Pass toward Longboat Key to the south. The settlement began as Cortez Beach; a bridge reached Bridge Street from the mainland in 1921, the island end of a later bridge became the fishing pier, and the city incorporated in 1952. Beach, bay, bridge, and trolley create a narrow sequence for daily movement, while the three island municipalities share one long coastal setting and regional visitor season.
