Brazil, IN

Located just east of Terre Haute along historic U.S. 40, Brazil is a quiet, friendly town of about 8,000 that serves as the county seat of Clay County. Founded in the 1830s and named after the South American nation making news at the time, the area grew as a hub for clay manufacturing, coal mining, and the railroad. Today, that heritage is easy to spot in the striking Clay County Courthouse, the brick storefronts along National Avenue, and the classic homes lining its neighborhood streets.

For newcomers, daily life moves at an easy pace while keeping you within a short drive of Terre Haute's larger employers, hospitals, and shopping centers. Families are served by Clay Community Schools, and residents regularly gather at the historic Carnegie library and Forest Park, which features walking trails, a golf course, and popular seasonal events. Downtown even features an ornate fountain gifted directly from Brazil in honor of the shared name. It all adds up to an affordable, grounded community with plenty of classic Midwestern charm.
