Brazos Country, TX

Brazos Country is a Class B municipality in Austin County, about seven miles southeast of Sealy and just south of Interstate 10. The 2020 census counted 514 residents. The community began as a 1,000-acre ranch: 650 acres were subdivided in 1978, with roads and a private water system built as Brazos Country took shape. The remaining ranchland followed the Brazos River until 1997, when it became the River Ridge Golf Club property. That course is now closed, but the river-side ranch history still helps make sense of the city's spread.

Residents voted to incorporate in May 2000 after Sealy considered annexing the area, and state law limited the new city to a two-square-mile boundary. The local map has no old downtown to organize it: it is roads, lots, water infrastructure, and the river line. Brazos Country remains tied to Sealy's schools and services, with the Brazos River at the eastern edge. It feels like a municipality made out of a subdivision and a boundary decision, with the river still visible beyond the back roads.
