About Brewer

Brewer is a city in Penobscot County, Maine, situated on the east side of the Penobscot River directly opposite its sister city, Bangor. Named for its first settler, Colonel John Brewer, the community of approximately 9,700 was historically famous for brick-making, ship-building, and saw-milling at the head of navigation on the river. Public education is administered by the Brewer School Department, and local landmarks include nearby Brewer Lake.
