Briggsville, WI

Briggsville sits on the eastern side of Mason Lake in Marquette County’s southwest corner, with Wisconsin Highway 23 carrying the road through the Town of Douglas. The lake is the first thing to know about the place: it shapes the view, the address, and the way the community connects to the surrounding countryside. A little over a mile east, the Bonnie Oaks Historic District adds a second landmark, linking Briggsville to a preserved slice of local history.

Briggsville is also home to the National Shrine of Saint Philomena, established through Father I. C. Wiltzius’s efforts in the late 1940s. That gives the CDP an unusual combination of lake, historic district, and pilgrimage destination. The Wisconsin Dells School District serves the community, adding a school connection that keeps daily life grounded while visitors come for the shrine or pass along Highway 23. Briggsville’s local character is in the contrast: a lakeside place with a small-town road, a historic district nearby, and a religious landmark known far beyond the county.
