Bristol, FL

Bristol is the only incorporated city and the county seat of Liberty County, set on a bluff above the Apalachicola River in Florida's Panhandle. The settlement began in 1859 with a store, saw mills, grist mills, a hotel, and churches; its city charter came in 1958. The river is the defining geographic feature, wrapping the city in the larger Apalachicola watershed and giving the county seat a strong connection to north Florida's forests, bluffs, and water routes.

Local life extends well beyond the courthouse. Bristol's volunteer fire department is staffed by residents, Liberty County schools include Liberty County High and W. R. Tolar Elementary and Middle, and Veterans Memorial Park includes the Tom Keenan Depot. Wright Lake, Beaverdam Creek, the Apalachicola National Forest, Bristol Landing, and the Garden of Eden Trail add outdoor destinations around town. State Roads 20 and 12 connect Bristol with Blountstown, Tallahassee, and Greensboro. It is a small county seat with a river at its back and a long list of roads, schools, parks, and volunteer duties in front of it.
