Bristol, TX

Bristol is an Ellis County CDP of 714 residents in the 2020 census, along FM 660 about 18 miles northeast of Waxahachie and six miles northeast of Palmer in the Dallas-Fort Worth orbit. Joshua Brock settled the area in the 1840s, and the community began as Brockville, with a post office under that name from 1854 to 1869. The road still matters because Bristol sits in the farm-and-service landscape between larger North Texas towns. The farm roads leading into town keep those larger regional connections part of ordinary orientation.

The first school was housed in a multipurpose building erected in 1870, and Bristol schoolhouses built in 1886 and 1913 served young people from across the area. By the late 20th century, Bristol remained a supply and service center for farmers, with school and church ties. Those school and church connections remain part of the community's local story. The local scoop is a small Ellis County place whose identity comes from FM 660, a schoolhouse tradition, and the working countryside around it.
