About Brogden

Brogden is a Wayne County community named for the Brogden family, Quakers of English descent who settled here during the colonial period. The name is the first clue that this is an old rural settlement, with family history running deeper than the current census-designated boundary. One of the area’s strongest landmarks is Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church, listed on the National Register in 2008. Brogden is served by Wayne County schools, with Goldsboro close enough for Wayne Community College and other higher-education options. The local read is a low, sandy coastal-plain place where a family name, an old church, and nearby Goldsboro do most of the orienting.
