About Bronson
Bronson is Levy County’s seat, a Florida town that began with a sawmill and trading post. Citrus groves once filled the surrounding area—about 75 were reported around Bronson—and the railroad made the town a crossroads for the county. Logging and citrus shaped the early economy, while hard freezes in the 1890s damaged the groves as the timber was cut. The Levy County Public Library’s Bronson branch and the Bronson Speedway on the outskirts give the town two very different present-day reference points: a county library branch and a racetrack at the edge. Bronson’s map still joins county government, a railroad-era crossroads, and a rural economy formed by timber and citrus.
