About Brooklyn

Brooklyn is a Jackson County village in Michigan's Irish Hills, just north of U.S. 12 along M-50. Calvin Swain filed the first land claim in 1832 and called the settlement Swainsville; a town meeting changed the name to Brooklyn in 1836. Hayes State Park, along Wamplers and Round lakes, sits nearby in the same rolling hills-and-lakes country, and Michigan International Speedway is just south of the village. Brooklyn is a southern Michigan place where an old name change, two state highways, and the Irish Hills landscape fit neatly together.
