About Brookston
Brookston is a White County town that got its start from the railroad and keeps its calendar tied to apples and popcorn. It was platted in 1853, named for railroad official James Brooks, and incorporated in 1867. Since 1978, the Brookston Apple Popcorn Festival has taken over the third Saturday in September with food, music, contests, races, vendors, and yard sales. The Brookston-Prairie Township Public Library gives the town another lasting institution. Brookston is a northwestern Indiana place where a railroad name and an oddly specific harvest festival tell the local story quickly.
