Brush Fork, WV

Brush Fork is a Mercer County census-designated place of 1,065 residents in the 2020 census, about two miles northwest of Bluefield. The community takes its name from Brush Fork Creek, which flows into the Bluestone River. U.S. 52 and West Virginia Route 123 meet at Airport Square, and Mercer County Airport sits just east of the settlement. Those roads put Brush Fork in the network between Bluefield, the Virginia line, and the nearby valleys.

Education and civic institutions give the community more than a road junction. Brushfork Elementary served local children before its consolidation with Bluewell Elementary into Timberwood Elementary, and the former Bluefield College of Evangelism campus remains part of the area's history. The West Virginia National Guard Brushfork Armory hosts training and community events, including basketball games and college commencements. The armory sits near the roads that funnel movement toward Bluefield and Mercer County. Brush Fork is a place where creek, highway, airport, school, and armory fit into one suburban-rural edge beside Bluefield.
