About Buckland

Buckland is a small city in Alaska's Northwest Arctic Borough, with a population a little over five hundred. It takes its English name from the Buckland River, which itself was named for Oxford professor William Buckland. The community is served by Buckland School in the Northwest Arctic Borough School District. Like many remote Alaska towns, Buckland is small on paper but shaped by a much larger surrounding landscape of river country, distance, and local Native life.
