About Bude

Bude sits three miles east of Meadville in central Franklin County, on the north bank of the Homochitto River, with U.S. Routes 84 and 98 running by town. The river cuts diagonally through the county toward the Mississippi, while the highways set Bude on the short drive between the county seat, Brookhaven, McComb, and Natchez. That gives the town a clear working map: river to the south, roads running outward, and Franklin County business close by.

Bude was founded in 1912 and named for the English home of Mrs. Peck, whose husband was one of the founders. The town’s school connection runs through Franklin County School District, while a large rail-equipment maintenance shop adds an industrial note to the local economy. Mississippi’s state archives preserve a 1962 map of Bude, and the Franklin County story carries the Homochitto, cotton-era county history, and the town’s place just east of Meadville together. The local scoop is a small river town with a two-highway address and a broad set of regional ties.
