About Burdett

Burdett sits in the Town of Hector in Schuyler County, east of Seneca Lake and northeast of Watkins Glen. It marks the first settlement in Hector, dating to about 1790, and New York State Route 79 comes through the village before continuing east through the Finger Lakes. Logan Creek adds a local water line, while the lake and the surrounding hills set the broader Finger Lakes frame. Burdett's roads climb away from the shoreline, so the village feels connected to Seneca Lake without sitting directly on its edge.

The Finger Lakes Trail passes through Burdett's center, entering from the west and heading north toward Finger Lakes National Forest. The village's comprehensive plan describes Route 79 as the main spine and the link to Routes 414 and 14 on opposite sides of Seneca Lake. Village board meetings meet at the Burdett Fire House on the first and third Mondays, while the clerk's office keeps Monday evening hours at 4124 Lake Avenue. Burdett's local map is a mix of village streets, a long-distance trail, and the lake country just beyond its eastern ridge.
