Burleson, TX

Burleson began as a midpoint depot on the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad’s 1880 line between Fort Worth and Alvarado. As part of the depot agreement, Renfro named the town for his former teacher Rufus Columbus Burleson, president of Baylor University. The combined drugstore and station survives as the Burleson Heritage Museum, and two interurban cars also remain. Today the city spans Johnson and Tarrant counties within the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex; Interstate 35W runs southeast through a narrow municipal corridor toward Alvarado, while Village Creek flows toward the Trinity River. Burleson grew from 36,690 residents in 2010 to 48,132 in 2020, and a 2024 estimate placed the population at 57,625. The Burleson Higher Education Center hosts Hill College and Texas Tech University.
