Burlington, MA

On paper, Burlington is a classic Boston suburb of about 26,000 residents, but on any given weekday, that population more than doubles. Ever since Route 128 was built across the area's farmland in the 1950s, the town has grown into one of the region's premier commercial hubs. Situated right at the junction of Route 128 and Route 3, Burlington offers quick highway access in every direction. Originally settled in the seventeenth century, the historic core features colonial-era landmarks, the Old Parish Burial Ground, and Grandview Farm, a former stagecoach stop that now hosts community gatherings and events. Nearby, the restored 1855 Center School and historic one-room West School sit alongside the library, municipal offices, and playing fields. It serves as an active community center where neighbors get together for summer concerts on the grass, youth sports, and holiday celebrations.

The town hosts major employers across technology, life sciences, and medicine, anchored by the renowned Lahey Hospital and Medical Center. For shopping and dining, the renovated Burlington Mall and the walkable 3rd Avenue district offer everything from department stores and specialty boutiques to upscale restaurants and casual bistros. Because businesses generate a substantial share of local tax revenue, the town can invest heavily in public schools, town services, and recreation facilities while keeping residential property taxes manageable.

The 250-acre Landlocked Forest provides about 13 miles of trails winding through quiet woods, vernal pools, and old stone walls, connecting into conservation networks in neighboring Bedford and Lexington. It is a favorite local spot for hiking, trail running, dog walking, and mountain biking. Along with the peaceful water views at Mill Pond Conservation Area and several neighborhood parks, Burlington gives newcomers a great mix of suburban convenience, neighborhood charm, and easy access to the outdoors.
