Burnsville is a town and the county seat of Yancey County, North Carolina, situated in the Blue Ridge Mountains under the shadow of Mount Mitchell. Founded in 1834 and named for War of 1812 naval hero Otway Burns, the mountain valley community of approximately 2,082 is served by Yancey County Schools for education locally.
