About Burr Oak

Tucked into the scenic rolling hills of northeast Iowa, Burr Oak is a quiet village sitting just a few miles south of the Minnesota border. Founded in the 1850s, it is one of the earliest settlements in Winneshiek County. Today, the community is best known for its connection to Laura Ingalls Wilder, whose family lived and worked at the local Masters Hotel in the late 1870s. The building still stands on its original site and operates as a museum and park.
