Byron, WY

Byron is a Big Horn County town set between the Shoshone River and the oil-rich sand hills, with farm country on its edges and Big Horn Reservoir nearby. The 2020 census counted 562 residents. Its settlement began on May 22, 1900, when Latter-day Saint pioneers arrived under the direction of Byron Sessions, the namesake who surveyed and oversaw the Sidon Canal. Water from that canal brought irrigation to the community, so Byron’s early story is about farming and water control as much as homesteading.

Today, the Byron Museum on South Pryor Street keeps the pioneer story in a tangible place, with artifacts, a log cabin, and farm wagons. Byron Days turns that history into a recurring July gathering built around a parade on Main Street, a market, food, games, and events at Jones Park. The town’s calendar follows a clear seasonal pattern: local history in the museum, irrigation and agriculture in the surrounding landscape, and a summer festival that brings the streets and parks into one shared schedule.
