Caddo, OK

Caddo is a Bryan County town on U.S. Highways 69 and 75, north of Durant and near the Atoka County line. The 2020 census counted 1,017 residents. The town sits on a branch of the Blue River, with the Caddo Hills rising a couple of miles southeast. That setting gives Caddo a clear north-south road identity: the highway carries through traffic, while the town’s older story follows the trails and rail line that made this a stopping place.

Caddo is the oldest town in Bryan County. The site was a Choctaw court town and a stop on the trail between Fort Smith and Fort Sill before the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railway arrived in 1872. The name comes from the nearby Caddo Hills, where a Caddo-Choctaw battle took place in 1808. Today Caddo’s county-seat errands run to Durant, but the town keeps its own civic rhythm around churches, local businesses, highway traffic, and the Blue River country. It is a small Oklahoma town with Indigenous, trail, and railroad history layered into one place.
