Cade, LA

Cade is a census-designated place in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana, at the junction of Louisiana 182 and 92-1. The 2020 Census counted 1,874 residents. The community was named for Captain Cade, a longtime sheriff of New Iberia, and its roads keep Cade tied to St. Martinville, New Iberia, and Lafayette. The place is a mix of parish countryside and institutions that draw people from beyond the immediate residential streets.

One of those institutions is the Episcopal School of Acadiana. The school began in Lafayette in 1979 with 11 teachers and 87 students, then moved its middle and upper school to Cade in 1980 on land that once held the Smedes Brothers Sugar Mill. Its campus grew from 75 acres to 100, with classroom buildings set among live oaks. Bruce Foods, Spanish Trail Golf Course, and The Pines Ranch add other recognizable names to Cade’s local landscape. The result is a small parish community with a school campus, business sites, and golf and ranch land sharing the same crossroads.
