Calcium is a quiet community in Jefferson County, tucked conveniently between the city of Watertown and Fort Drum. Home to around 3,600 residents, it offers a relaxed, small-town setting with plenty of open space. The hamlet received its unusual name in 1911 from local inventor Madison Cooper, whose cold-storage work utilized calcium chloride. Today, the 1853 Calcium Community Church remains a familiar local landmark, and neighborhood students generally attend schools in the Indian River Central School District, with a few pockets zoned for Watertown.

Thanks to its spot along U.S. Route 11 and Route 342, Calcium is a popular choice for military families stationing at Fort Drum and commuters heading into Watertown. The area is primarily residential around Sanfords Four Corners, offering a quiet neighborhood feel.
