Calhoun City, MS

Calhoun City is a Calhoun County town in north-central Mississippi, with 1,533 residents at the 2020 census. Mississippi Highway 9 runs through the center, six miles north to Pittsboro and toward Bruce farther north. The Yalobusha River passes about a mile south, and Calhoun County School District serves the town through Calhoun City High School. The county seat is Pittsboro, but Calhoun City remains one of the county's main settled places, with school traffic, highway businesses, and farm roads shaping the daily map.

The railroad put Calhoun City on the map. A line from Okolona reached the area in the early 1900s, and the new town drew merchants, newspapers, and banks away from older settlements. Its charter was recorded in 1912, and the community club later took on street and park improvements. That early mix of rail, commerce, and civic work still fits the town: a highway center beside the Yalobusha, serving surrounding farms and keeping its high-school Wildcats part of local life.
