Calhoun, LA

Calhoun is an unincorporated census-designated place in Ouachita Parish, about 10 miles west of West Monroe, along U.S. Highway 80 near Interstate 20. The 2020 census counted 670 residents. It was named for Archibald Calhoun, an early settler and landowner. The landscape shifts between wooded hills and open rural land, while the old transcontinental route remains the main line through the community.

As an unincorporated community, Calhoun's current civic map follows Ouachita Parish services. Calhoun Elementary, Central Elementary, Calhoun Middle, and West Ouachita High serve the area through Ouachita Parish School System. The highway puts Calhoun between the West Monroe area and the rural roads leading north and south, with I-20 adding a major regional connection. Calhoun is a road-and-school settlement whose name, parish structure, and wooded landscape show how it fits into the larger Ouachita Parish map.
