Caliente, NV

Caliente is a Lincoln County city whose name comes from the hot springs that drew attention before the railroad made the town. It began on Culverwell Ranch in 1901, then grew when the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad reached the area and made Caliente a division point in 1905. The 1923 Mission Revival depot was built as more than a train stop: it served as a civic center and hotel, and it now holds city offices, a library, and a gallery. Kershaw-Ryan State Park sits nearby, adding a pocket of canyon landscape to the high-desert setting. Caliente is railroad Nevada with hot-spring roots and a depot that still does civic work.
