Calumet is a quiet, tight-knit community in northwest Iowa's O'Brien County, home to around 150 residents. Located along Highway 59 about 15 miles north of Cherokee, the town offers peaceful rural living surrounded by open farmland. Founded as a railroad stop in the late 1880s, Calumet holds onto its storied local history, including a legendary stretch from 1957 to 1961 when the small local high school made five straight trips to the state basketball tournament.
