Camano's everyday geography is defined by one road connection. State Route 532 reaches the island from Stanwood by crossing two bridges, and Island County's emergency transportation plan notes that there is no alternate road and no facility for a Washington State ferry. Around the shoreline, Camano Island State Park combines 77 reservable campsites, five cabins, a boat launch, and four miles of forest trails; another mile of trail connects it to Cama Beach Historical State Park. Cama Beach remains a day-use park with as many as 15 miles of hiking and biking trails, although its historic resort cabins are permanently closed because of infrastructure failures. In spring 2026, Island Transit's fare-free network included local east- and west-side routes, a Stanwood connection, and express service toward Mount Vernon and Everett, with buses operating seven days a week.

The Camano Island Library supplies computers, laptop checkout, Wi-Fi, a meeting room, a local-history collection, a seed library, and round-the-clock pickup lockers; patrons can also borrow a telescope and board games. The nonprofit Camano Center focuses on adults 55 and older, with activities, volunteer opportunities, community lunches three days a week, and coordination of Meals on Wheels deliveries. State-park trails, the library, transit routes, and the center therefore serve different parts of local life, while every routine road trip off the island ultimately funnels through SR 532.
