Camargo, KY

Camargo is a small Montgomery County city spread along Camargo Road between Mount Sterling and the foothills leading toward Frenchburg. Its history is tied to movement: the post office opened in 1848, and the town's name is said to have come from soldiers returning from the Mexican-American War, who chose either a Mexican place name or the name of a performer they had encountered. Greenbrier Creek crosses the northern part of town, while Bowles Branch marks the southern edge, giving the settled area a creek-country shape.

Today, Camargo works as a residential and service community in the Mount Sterling area. The city office, local businesses, utility connections, and the Montgomery County Public Library's branch give residents familiar touchpoints without making the town feel overbuilt.
