Camilla, GA

Camilla is the Mitchell County seat in southwest Georgia, with 5,187 residents in the 2020 census. It was incorporated in 1858 and named for the granddaughter of Henry Mitchell, the Revolutionary War general who gave the county its name. US 19 runs along the east side of downtown, connecting Camilla north to Albany and southeast to Thomasville. The white-marble Mitchell County Courthouse, built in 1936, still gives the county-seat center a strong physical landmark. The courthouse also marks Camilla's role as a county service hub for surrounding farms.

Camilla's working map is tied to farming and food processing. A Tyson chicken plant is one of the area's major workplaces, while county offices and the courthouse keep government concentrated downtown. Courthouse Square Park and the commercial historic district give residents a small central circuit of shops, services, and civic buildings. Camilla is a regional service town: farm roads feed into the courthouse center, and US 19 carries the wider south Georgia connection past it.
