Canajoharie, NY

Canajoharie is a Montgomery County village on the south bank of the Mohawk River, with Canajoharie Creek cutting through the center. The name is usually connected to the Mohawk phrase for "the pot that washes itself," a reference to the creek's boiling pot, a large pothole in its gorge. The modern village lies east of the historic Mohawk Upper Castle, whose church and archaeological sites form a National Historic Landmark district.
