Canby, CA

Canby is a small census-designated place in Modoc County, California, located seventeen miles west of Alturas at an elevation of 4,314 feet. Established with its first post office in 1874 and later serving as a Southern Pacific Railroad station, the community of approximately 180 residents is known locally for the I'SOT religious community's nativity scenes displayed prominently along California State Route 299. Local students are served by the Modoc Joint Unified School District.
