Tucked into the northern tip of the Willamette Valley, Canby has evolved from a quiet agricultural railroad stop into a welcoming small city of around 18,000 people. Highway 99E and the railroad tracks run straight through the center of town, naturally dividing it into a few distinct areas. Down by the water, Canby Community Park offers quiet picnic spots along the Molalla River and a youth fishing pond that is a hit with local kids. Just north of town, Molalla River State Park sits where the Molalla, Pudding, and Willamette rivers meet, offering hiking trails, peaceful riverbank walks, and a public boat launch. For a scenic local shortcut, you can cross the Willamette River aboard the historic Canby Ferry over to Wilsonville. The Clackamas County Fairgrounds serves as a major hub for regional entertainment throughout the year. Every August, the county fair and rodeo bring the community together with carnival rides, livestock exhibits, live music, and packed grandstands. The grounds also host popular spring and summer gatherings, including the Oregon Renaissance Faire and food and craft festivals. Neighborhoods close to the fairgrounds offer quick walking access to these events, though streets see noticeable traffic on big weekends.
