About Canisteo

Canisteo Center is a quiet rural hamlet sitting along the river just outside the Village of Canisteo. It was actually the original settlement in the area, but when the railroad came through in the mid-1800s, the train station had to be built two miles upriver. The main town grew around the new depot, leaving Canisteo Center as the peaceful, historic corner of the valley you see today.
