Canton, PA

Canton is a Bradford County borough tucked into a flat valley where Mill Creek and Towanda Creek run east to west. Canton Township surrounds the borough, so the town is a distinct municipal pocket inside the larger township. Rufus Gere settled here in 1796, and the place was first known as Canton Four Corners before the borough formed in 1863. State Routes 14, 154, and 414 carry traffic through the valley, giving Canton a steady through-town role without turning it into a highway stop.

The civic side of Canton is easy to picture: the Green Free Library, churches, a farmer’s market on warm-season Saturdays, and a cluster of parks. War Memorial Park has the everyday gear—pool, courts, fields, playground, and pavilion—so town life has somewhere to spill outside the borough office. Farms and wooded hills press in around the valley, while Towanda Creek keeps showing up in the landscape. Canton is a Bradford County town with a useful main-street scale, a long farming and settlement story, and enough local institutions to make the borough feel like its own place.
