About Carbondale

Carbondale is a city in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, situated fifteen miles northeast of Scranton. Developed in the early nineteenth century by canal founders William and Maurice Wurts to support the regional anthracite coal mining industry, the community of approximately 8,789 is served by the Carbondale Area School District for public primary and secondary education.
