Carlin, NV

Sitting along Interstate 80 about twenty minutes west of Elko, Carlin is a quiet, down-to-earth community of roughly 2,000 residents in northeastern Nevada. The town grew up around the railroad in the late 1860s, and you can still watch freight trains rumble right through the center of town. For newcomers, it offers a laid-back desert setting where housing can be more accessible and the community feels tight-knit from day one.

A large share of local jobs ties back to the Carlin Trend, one of the most productive gold-mining regions in the world, making the town a practical home base for miners and shift workers. Carlin Canyon and the Humboldt River sit close by for weekend hiking, off-roading, and fishing against rugged canyon backdrops. Daily essentials and friendly neighborhood spots are right in town, and Elko is an easy 20-minute drive down the highway whenever you need bigger stores or services.
