Carolina Beach is a town on Pleasure Island in New Hanover County, south of Wilmington. It is a classic North Carolina beach town, with a boardwalk, fishing, seasonal visitors, Freeman Park, and neighborhoods tucked behind the dunes. Hurricane Hazel devastated the town in 1954, and that history still fits a place constantly shaped by storms, rebuilding, and the ocean.
