Carrollton, MO

Carrollton is the county seat of Carroll County, Missouri, at the intersection of U.S. Routes 24 and 65. The city was established in 1833 and received its post office in 1834. The Missouri River lies about five miles south, and the wider county includes a commercial river port near Brunswick and tributaries of the Grand River. Carrollton is therefore a county-government center close to the river landscape without sitting directly on the riverfront.

Carrollton R-VII School District operates the elementary, junior high, and high schools as well as the Carrollton Area Career Center. The Carrollton Public Library provides the town's library service, and the city maintains a public square with a live stream for council meetings and events. The central square also gives county offices and local gatherings a shared address. Those institutions give the county-seat label a practical shape: courthouse business, school and career training, library programs, and a central square are concentrated in town, while the Missouri River and agricultural communities spread beyond it.
